Promoting Hove Heritage – An illustrated talk by Hove Civic Society 15 September 2pm

As part of Heritage Open Days, Hove Civic Society will give an illustrated talk at the Hove Museum of Creativity about Hove Civic Society’s initiative to bring Hove heritage alive by refreshing and renewing Hove Heritage interpretation boards. The talk is free but places are limited so you need to book and register on the Museums website (see link below).

Weds 20 March 7pm, Ralli Hall: Scattered squalor and the downlands homes – interwar housing explored by Dr Geoff Mead

Between the wars there was an enormous growth in British suburban housing, but not all were Tudorbethan semis with clipped lawns and an Austin 7 in the drive. Many were what are now termed ‘plotlands’, but in the past had harsher terms applied- hutments, track and shack or simply shanty towns…a term now viewed with much disfavour! In this talk Dr Geoff Mead traces interwar housing development in Hove from ‘plotlands’ to suburban semi- detached estates.

Moda Hove Central is delivering some major new public art commissions to the new development in Hove Station Quarters.  Richard Wolfstrome , who is project manageing this initiative,  will present the story of the process and the decisions that have been made along the way. He will introduce the audience to the artists that have been awarded and, maybe, have the opportunity to give a ‘sneak preview’ of the designs as they are being progressed.
